Our Partners Reflect

Wendy Kopp, Founder and Chair of the Board, Teach for America

“There is a huge amount of energy and progress toward ensuring that kids growing up in our lowest-income areas have the potential to get a good education.”

“When I think about the impact of Teach For America, I look to the communities in which we are operating. In some cases, we have been working together for 15-20 years, and you can see a huge amount of energy and progress toward ensuring that kids growing up in our lowest-income areas have the potential to get a good education. While we see incredible progress, we see a lot that needs to be done. Fortunately, we have good partners.

“I remember one of my first meetings with Lynn in her New York apartment. At the time, there was no apparent synergy between her priorities and our work. Still, her passion and enthusiasm to make change led us into a conversation on how to engage our corps members through their faith. From that, came REALITY and the beginning of a wonderful partnership that has only grown, including bringing Teach For America to Tulsa.

“With expansion to new cities, our constraints usually involved recruitment. We want to be able to have corps members for all existing sites before expanding to new ones. But to know Lynn Schusterman is to understand her all-encompassing commitment, passion and persistence in achieving what she believes needs to be done for the greater good, especially in her hometown.

“Grounded in the tone set by Lynn in the early days of our partnership, we have developed a truly collaborative relationship with the Schusterman team. We continue to enlist them at every stage as we think about everything from leadership development to future programming ideas. The relationship, and our ability to give all kids the chance to attain an excellent education, will only grow as we learn from and support each other.”
